For the 2009 San Diego whale watching season Dennis Conner’s famous yacht “America” has teamed up with the Maritime Museum of San Diego to offer this magical vessel to the public every day of the season. Your "Premium Whale Watching" experience consists of a 4 hour ocean sail on this incredible yacht, whale and dolphin watching opportunities, and access to the adventure and nautical history of the Maritime Museum of San Diego.

“No Seasickness Guarantee”

That’s right! The folks on the beautiful yacht “America” are so confident that you will not get seasick that they will provide a $40 gift certificate at San Diego’s famous “Fish Market” restaurant if your day is spoiled by motion sickness ($20 child certificate). Most whale watching vessels are motorboats that not only have a lot more diesel fumes than a sailboat, because of their hull shape are more inclined to roll a lot more on the ocean than a sailboat with a large balancing keel deep below the surface. As such the 11 Ft deep keel on the 139 Ft. “America” effectively eliminates 90% of the motion… and guarantees you a great day!

Attraction Terms & Conditions

Terms refund: 90% seven days, none within 48 hours unless it can be re-sold then 90%. Rain-check for bad weather, refund if you live outside Southern California.

Hints – Dress warmly as conditions can change hour to hour - you can always shed layers as necessary. We do provide blankets for guests that may become cold. Remember to bring your binoculars to better see the whales and dolphins. Most whale watching in San Diego is done aboard large diesel engine boats, which produce lots of diesel fumes which often contribute to sea sickness. The "America" is so large, stable and smooth, that our passengers virtually never get seasick. Feel free to take precautions if you wish but as we sail most of the trip you’ll find this experience very pleasant.

Pre-Sailing Instructions

Some things you should know:

1. We provide free basic beverages and snacks but recommend that guests bring a picnic lunch, a blanket, their own favorite wine or beer and relax on deck as we sail to the whales and then have an amazing sail back in from the ocean.

2. The 139 foot sailing yacht "America" is the famous vessel that the "America's Cup" international yacht race is named after. She is the most famous vessel in yacht racing history. She carried the Olympic flame into Savannah, Georgia for the start of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. She carries up to 85 guests and conducts "Picnics On The Ocean" with the whales during the whale watching season, from late December to March. Our guests get to help raise our huge sails, take a turn at the helm and explore the history of this beautiful yacht. Whale and dolphin sightings are a frequent bonus to the incredible sailing experience and bragging rights that accompany sailing the "America".

This yacht sails very fast for her size. The 139 foot long sailing yacht is perfectly suited for whale watching because of its low sleek lines, deep keel for stability and the ability to quietly approach the whales under sail without using noisy engine power. The yacht's low sweeping deck also gives guests a great vantage point for photographing the whales up close.

The only green whale watching tour in San Diego. In this age of carbon gases and global warming, what better way to see Mother Nature at her best than from the fine teak decks of this beautiful sailing vessel? Our sailing yacht "America" is NOT like the other whale watching tours that use diesel fuel. This is your opportunity to do a small bit towards greening the environment. Normally the yacht is only available for private charter.
